Ceylinco Insurance top contributor

The CSE saw a dull day of activity, with the Indices ending negative as well. The benchmark ASI shed 17 points (0.95%) to close at 1,803 points while the liquid MPI lost 15 points (0.77%) to end at 1,949 points.

Ceylinco Insurance was the top contributor to revenue, bringing in Rs 55 million or 42% of the day's turnover of Rs 131 million. The share closed flat at Rs 175.00. John Keells Holdings (JKH) contributed Rs 9 million and ended the day at Rs 64.00 down Rs 1.50 (2.26%)

Asian markets were down on concerns of a deepening global recession. Japan's Nikkei 225 ended at 7,873 (down 120 points), Hong Kong's Hang Seng at 12,861 (down 416 points) and India's BSE 30 at 9,067 (down 356 points)
