New pavilion and scoreboard of Thurstan to be opened on January 30

The newly-constructed pavilion and the scoreboard of Thurstan College
will be ceremonially declared open on January 30 at Stanley Wijesundera
Mawatha, Colombo 7 at 7.30 a.m.
The Kumar Devapura Pavilion and the Lal Wijeratne scoreboard have
been donated by Kumar Devapura and Lal Wijeratne two distinguished old
boys of Thurstan College at a cost of nearly Rs. 20 million.
To mark this occasion the organising committee has planned a Twenty20
inter-school cricket tournament on the same day for the Kumar Devapura
challenge trophy.
The teams participating in this tournament are St. John's College
Jaffna, Jamaliya College Trincomalee, Combined teams of Eastern
Province, Wesley College and Thurstan College.
The Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge and the
IGP Jayantha Wickremaratne will grace the occasion as chief guests.
In addition there will be a cultural pageant after the tournament.
The organisers are also hoping to make this tournament an annual
event. |
