The Ministry of Highways and Road Development, commenced work on the prefabricated flyover at Nugegoda Junction on October 01, 2008. The Nugegoda Flyover and Kelaniya Flyover were planned to comprise four traffic lanes. This flyover is 261 meters long and 8.7 meters wide cost Rs. 878 million. It was funded by the British Government, whilst installation was handled by the British Company Mabey & Johnson under the direction of the Road Development Authority.
