No clandestine aircraft
Air Force Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara told a media briefing
yesterday no suspicious aircraft had been spotted.
“There was no such aircraft observed in the sky as reported in the
media [not the Daily News],” he said.
He said when the Air Force patrolled the skies at over 21,000 feet in
the Vishvamadu area around 8.00 p.m. a strange light like a razer bullet
was spotted descending from high above.
Ground troops in Omanthai also observed the same light around 8.30
p.m. and informed the Air Force. “This was also observed again by the
Air Force while they were flying”, Wing Commander Nanayakkara added.
The strange light coming from high up in the sky was also sighted in
Palali and Chundikulam areas in the North. He asserted that the radar
did not pick any aircraft except the Air Force plane patrolling the sky.
“If there is any aircraft in the sky, the radar should have intercepted
it.
People also did not hear any sound of an aircraft. Therefore, had
there been any aircraft heading towards Mullaitivu, then the people
should have heard the sound,” he added. Wing Commander Nanayakkara
stressed that it was a light coming from a low orbiting satellite. RJ |
