UNP Leader will enter Guinness Book - Chief Govt Whip

Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told Parliament yesterday that by bringing the same No-Confidence Motion twice, the UNP should enter the Guinness Book of records.

The Minister inquired from Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe whether he was attempting to enter the Guinness Book by moving the same No-Confidence Motion in Parliament for a second time.

“The name of Wickremesinghe will go down in the Guinness Book as the only Opposition Leader who did not move his own No-Confidence Motion against the Government,” he said.

The UNP had the opportunity to move their No-Confidence Motion in Parliament on January 9. The UNP which didn’t have any interest to move their No-Confidence Motion on January 9 is attempting to move that same Motion again, the Minister said. “If the UNP was genuinely interested, they would have taken the opportunity to debate their motion during the entire day of January 9. But, the UNP ran away without make use this opportunity extended to them by the Government.” The Minister said a No-Confidence Motion is moved to defeat the Government.

The Opposition Leader is running away as he is not consistent with his own No-Confidence Motion.
