Dilroy and Jamaldeen honoured by Rugby Referees Society
Two of Sri Lanka’s leading rugby referees Dilroy Fernando and Nizam
Jamaldeen were felicitated by the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society at
its annual general meeting held at CR and FC pavilion, Longden Place
yesterday.
Fernando and Jamaldeen were honoured for their excellent refereeing
in domestic and international rugby and for being picked to officiate at
the World Cup Rugby Sevens in Dubai in March, 2009. Both were presented
with tokens of appreciation by former Sri Lanka skipper and an
ex-President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society Summa Navaratnam.
Tokens of appreciation were also presented to former Presidents of
the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society - Summna Navaratnam, S. Sivendran,
Lionel Almeida, Gamini Fernando, Tony Amith, Nimal Lewke, Ana Saranapala,
Mohan Balasuriya, Jupana Jayawardena and Metha Abeygunawardena for the
yeoman services rendered by them in improving the standard of refereeing
during their tenure of office.
Dilroy Fernando was also elected as President of the Sri Lanka Rugby
Referees Society at the AGM while Nizam Jamaldeen was elected vice
President. Former Peterite and CR and FC ruggerite Kevin Lappen is the
new Secretary of the Society while Lakdasa Colombage secured the
Treasurer’s post. Gamini Indrasena, Vimal Perera, Mahinda Jayawardena,
Anil Jayasinghe, Major Upali Kotuwegedera, Orville Fernando and Shamrath
Fernando were elected to the committee. |
