Prof Mark Wilson to direct Soul Sounds at Gospel Concert
Sri Lanka’s premiere female ensemble will once again enthrall Sri
Lankan audiences with their rendition of gospel music. Directing them
will be Prof Mark Wilson, Music Director, University of Berkeley,
California, Gospel Chorus.
This will be Professor Wilson’s second visit to Sri Lanka, on the
invitation of Soul Sounds.
The concert last year was a success, and taught the choir the true
art of gospel singing, which in turn helped them win a Gold in the
Gospel Category at the World Choir Games held in Austria last year.
The choir closely bound together in voice and friendship invited Prof
Wilson for the first time last year, when their Choir Director Soundarie
David met him during her term at the University of California Berkeley,
and was inspired to have him share gospel music with her choir Soul
Sounds.
Prof Wilson has conducted many choirs in the USA, and is talented not
only in directing them, but is also a singer and a pianist.
The concert this year titled ‘Music In the Air’ is a mix of gospel
and spiritual music, new repertoire which the choir will master within a
span of a week of workshops with Prof Wilson.
The music will cover all genres of gospel music, and what is special
in them all is that it will be an introduction to new styles of gospel
music for the first time in Sri Lanka. The concert is bound to be
uplifting and inspirational for the audience.
The concert will be held on the 11th of January at the Lionel Wendt
Theatre. Tickets at the Wendt.
The concert will also feature Neranjan de Silva and Christopher Prins
as accompanists. The Artistic Director of the Choir is Jerome de Silva. |
