CPFS entertains inmates of Sanghamiththa Home for Girls

The Colombo Plan International Society (CPIS) entertained the
children at the Sanghamiththa Home for Girls' at Dutugamunu Street,
Dehiwela recently.
Colombo Plan International Society Patron, Patricia Yoon Moi Chia who
participated at the ceremony distributed the books donated to the Home
by the Colombo Plan International Society.
CPIS Patron Patricia Yoon Moi Chia who spend the evening with the 28
girls at the Sanghamiththa Home distributing cakes among the girls said
that CPIS will assist the Home to maintain the high standard of the Home
in future.
The guests were entertained by a performance of songs by the girls.
The event was coordinated by Rtn. Manoranjan Wijebahu whose wife,
Kamini, is the Secretary of the Sanghamiththa Girls' Home. The Home has
special significance to Manoranjan since it was founded 102 years ago by
his paternal grandmother. According to Manoranjan, many of the girls who
grew up in the Home have since pursued successful careers and many have
families of their own.
Sanghamiththa Girls' Home has a legacy of 102 years old.
There are 28 girls whose age range from five to sixteen years, who
are orphans, from improverished single parent families or who are left
destitute on the street.
In the spirit of the season, the Colombo Plan International Society
led by the President Upali S. Jayasekera, visited the Home recently with
his committee members, to spread some Christmas cheer and to provide
dinner for these girls. |
