Media institutions should act with responsibility - Maha Sangha
At a time when the country has reached a critical juncture in
national security, it is essential for all media institutions to act
with a sense of understanding of responsibilities, the Maha Sangha
stressed yesterday.
Attention should be focussed on media institutions which deviate from
such responsibility, stated the Maha Sangha at a discussion held with
the President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees yesterday.
About hundred members of the Maha Sangha including Nayake Theras from
all parts of the country were present at the discussion. The Maha Sangha
reiterated that most of the media institutions have realised their
responsibilities whilst some institutions deliberately acted devoid of
responsibility, which was a grave error on their part in the context of
the country's future.
"Teledramas, sometimes have a direct impact on the fabric of a
righteous society. It is of great importance for all media institutions
to act with a sense of responsibility in the interest of the younger
generation," they emphasised.
The President said the Government always gave priority for national
security and since the year 2009 has been designated the 'Year of
Conquest' (Ranaviru Vijayagaranaya Wasara), it is incumbent on all to
contribute to make it a success.
Ministers, Susil Premajayantha, Pandu Bandaranayake and Presidential
Secretary Lalith Weeratunga were also present. |
