PC election:
Nominations end tomorrow

The period granted for independent groups to make their deposits for
the forth coming Central and Waymba (North Western) Provincial Elections
will end at noon today while the accepting of nominations will end at
noon tomorrow, Deputy Election Commissioner W.P.Sumanasiriri announced
yesterday.
The polls should be held within five to eight weeks after the close
of nominations in keeping with the election law. It is to be held on
February 7, sources at the Election Commissioner’s Department said.
A total of 65 candidates from political parties or independent groups
will contest for 56 seats at the Central Provincial Council and a total
of 56 candidates from political parties or independent groups will
contest for the 50 seats at the Wayamba Provincial Council.
The Kandy , Matale, and Nuwara Eliya districts in the Central
Province have 1,746,449 eligible voters, while the Kurunegala and
Puttalam districts have 1,661,733 voters, sources said.
The Central Province will have 21 polling divisions while the Wayamba
Province will have 19 polling divisions.
A total of 1,389 polling stations will be set up in the Central
Province, 19 of which will be for women. 1,209 polling stations will be
set up in the Wayamba, sources added.
