The regular supply of drinking water in bowsers for the Tsunami
Housing Complex, of Galagodawatta in the Divisional Secretariat,
Hikkaduwa division has been suspended since October 2008, and only one
bowser is transporting drinking water once a week by the National Water
Supply and Drainage Board (NWS & DB).
Similar incidents of short issues of water supply was highlighted by
the Daily News in May 2008 and as a result the Divisional Secretary
(Acting) of Hikkaduwa had taken actions to renew the lapsed water supply
the NWS & DB for instructions of the Governor SP the displaced pointed
out.
Displaced families living in this housing complex have already
informed about the short supply of drinking water to the acting D.S. for
Hikkaduwa.
Meanwhile following a complaint made to the General Manager, NWS & DB
Southern C. J. D. Perera informed A. F. de Silva of Galagodawatta,
Kulugoda that action has been taken to release sufficient water bowsers
throughout in her letter dated August 2008, but neglected its regular
services and has terminated the duties of bowser employees too by now,
A. F. de Silva said.
According to NWSDB officials, a permanent supply of drinking water
service can be expected in 2010, after completing a water service
project in Galagoda.
