VAT scam: DG before commission today

State Finance Department's Director General Wasantha Ekanayake will
give evidence before the special Presidential Commission investigating
into the massive VAT scam which amounts to over Rs. 4300 million when it
resumes sitting today.
Ekanayake will be questioned on how his predecessor acted in the post
and his responsibilities as the Director General of the Department.
The Commission has questioned over 80 officials representing various
fields in the State service and recorded their evidence as part of its
investigation. The Committee chaired by retired High Court Judge M.P.
Paranagama comprises A.M. Fernando, S.M. Senaratne and S.M. Samarakoon.
Senior State Counsel D. Thotawatte will lead evidence.
