Highway on 30 km road

The Highways Department has decided to uplift the road from Melsiripura via Pallepola to Koholanwela about 30 kilometres, as a highway.

This road consists of two strips connecting Kurunegala and Matale districts. After construction of this road, it will provide easy access from Colombo to Nalanda Industrial village, located in Matale district. Investors can transport their products easily to the market. The Pallepola town can be developed as a commercial town. The existing congestion on the Matale-Anuradhapura and Trincomalee-Colombo main roads can be avoided. The preliminary work has been started by the Road Development Authority.
