Steps taken to recover costs of substandard drugs- Healthcare and
Nutrition Ministry
The Ministry of Healthcare and Nutrition with reference to the recent
allegations that it has failed to recover the costs of the substandard
drugs supplied by certain supplier companies, states that four drugs,
Ceftazidime for injection, Premathazine oral solution, Metronidazole tab
SP 200 mg, and Salbutamol tab Bp mg viz failed to conform to the
standard and action was taken to recover a total of Rs. 13.4 million
from the manufacturers during 2007.
Again, in 2008 steps have been taken to recover a total of Rs. 13
million on account of seven drugs. Metoclopramide 500 mg tablet,
Ceturoxime injection 750 mg, Ferrous sulphate 200 mg tablet, Ibuprofen
200 mg tablets, Paracetamol 500 mg tablets, Promethazine syrup 100 mg
and Ferrous Sulphate 200 mg.
Accordingly the allegations made by several individuals have been
proved baseless.
