Nursery school teachers training institute to be implemented
By Milton Dhamasinghe Bulathsinhala special corr.
A new programme of training nursery school teachers would be
implemented soon by the Ministry of Education and the system of nursery
education should be formed to suit the country according to our culture,
Minister of Education Services Nirmala Kotalawala said.
The Minister was addressing a meeting held at Horana Sri Palee
Auditorium recently where he distributed Singithi Savings Account Books
issued by the People’s Bank to 1600 nursery school children studying in
127 nursery schools in Horana and Madurawala areas. The programme was
organised by the Horana People’s Bank Branch. “For the future of the
country and the family, saving money is of very importance. So it is
very essential to teach our future generation to save money.
The value of saving should be inculcated to the mind of small
children from early stages. The process carried on by the People’s Bank
in this regard has been laudable,” Minister Kotalawala added. People’s
Bank that assists the Government in the development of the economy from
the profits earned annually has allocated money for promotion of saving
of money and which has been encouraging the customers.
The future development of the country lies in the hands of our future
generation. Therefore, it is of vital importance to put a strong
foundation from the pre-school stage if it is successful the future of
our children and the country will be prosperous.
With this idea in mind, the Ministry of Education has made
arrangements to provide quality pre-school education to children. Mr.
Senaka Bibile, Retired Director General of National Institute of
Education (NIE) making a lecture on ‘Child Development’ said that
according to the present set up of the country, our parents give much
burden to their small children which reflects much to their future.
They don’t give time for children to play, enjoy and study. Sending
children for tuition before they reach their school age is very
dangerous. Children should grow with the love and warmth of their
parents closely. Lack of parental love and affection will definitely
affect their future.”
