Steps to rehabilitate canal

Steps have been taken to renovate and rehabilitate the Kivulevila Ela at Hungama that provided water to cultivate 80 acres of paddy lands. Rs. 10 Lakhs has been allocated for this purpose.

Paddy cultivation under this Ela became impossible in the past due to the dilapidated canal complex and the deteriorated state of the banks of the Wila.

Irrigation Minister Jayatissa Ranaweera is the driving force behind the project.The farming community in the area will be able to cultivate both Yala and Maha seasons after its rehabilitation.
