The business community in the bank site of Anuradhapura city have
united to provide a customer friendly service to the public deviating
from ‘drawer to pocket and from pocket to drawer’ policy.
At a press conference held at the Grand hotel auditorium recently, L.
L. G. Kularatne, the president of the newly formed business consortium
said they intended to sell every item at their minimum price and provide
the best quality goods to customers.
In addition to such services, the businessmen linked to the
consortium would assist the police in maintaining security in the bank
site and patronise the Anuradhapura Municipal Council in the garbage
cleaning service in the zone.
He said that the new business consortium would train their staff
enabling them to provide a polite and a quality customer service which
would be exemplary to other businessmen in the area.
“We the ‘Anuradhapura bank site Business Consortium’ consist of
nearly 150 traders dealing in textiles, fancy goods, hotels and catering
services, hardware, cosmetics, drugs, printing, stationery etc.
There are a large number of vacancies available in our business
places, as supervisors, bill clerks, receptionists and salesmen and
women. But unfortunately the educated school leavers in Anuradhapura
city and suburbs though they are unemployed are reluctant to take to
such jobs. As such the new consortium will create a job market duly
organised to attract the unemployed youth to work with us,” Kularatne
disclosed.
He further said that the commercial zone relating to the new
‘Business Consortium’ would start from the bank-site clock tower
extending to the D. S. Senanayake roundabout.
The Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, the Anuradhapura Mayor
Dr. Kithsiri Caldera and DIG (NCP) K. P. P. Pathirana have pledged their
support and the cooperation to the new consortium facilitating the
venture by a group of businessmen in Anuradhapura city for the first
time as a daring and a new experience as far as the businessmen
concerned.
P. M. A. Ariyatilake the Treasurer Sugath Dharmakeerthi also briefed
the mediamen about the new set up. The new trend will be in effect from
December 21 to 31 as a trial.
