Only short term crops in paddy lands

Farmers will be allowed to cultivate only short term crops on lands earmarked for paddy cultivation in the future.

This follows the Government policy to maximise paddy cultivation on all arable lands in the country, the Government Information Department stated in a press release. Accordingly, cultivation of long term crops on paddy lands would be prohibited unless prior permission had been granted by the Commissioner General of Agrarian Services.
