CA presents CMC budget

The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) budget was presented yesterday by Competent Authority (CA) H. Sumanapala under powers vested with him in accordance with Sections 211 and 212 chapter 252 of the Municipal Councils' Ordinance.

Accordingly, the expected total expenditure for the year 2009 is Rs. 6,290,353,000 and the total income Rs. 6,293,053,000.

The income expected from rates will amount to 38.65 per cent of the total income while the total revenue expenditure is estimated at 81.44 per cent of the total expenditure of the budget. Activities of the CMC were suspended by Western Province Chief Minister Reginald Cooray under powers vested in him in the Provincial Councils Act on the recommendations of the One Man Commission led by retired Supreme Court Judge Dr. Chandradasa Nanayakkara.

The Special General Meeting was attended by Municipal Commissioner Badrani Jayawardane and other Deputy Commissioners with heads of Departments of the CMC.
