Seylan Bank - Mercantile badminton champions

Seylan Bank clinched the overall championship in the 26th Mercantile Annual Team Championship which was conducted by Sri Lanka Badminton Association worked off at St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia Badminton Courts on Sunday. The second place went to Hatton National Bank and the 3rd place was won by Sri Lankan Airlines. Niluka Karunarathne (Seylan Bank) and Chandrika de Silva also from Seylan Bank were selected as the Best Players of A Division Tournament.

More than 900 players from 150 teams (50 Mercantile firms) participated this 26th Annual Mercantile Badminton Team Championship. This was the tournament with the highest number of participants for the last 25 years. The chief guest on this occasion was Gerald de Saram, the Managing Director of CIC Paints.

Final day results

Men's A Division - Selayn Bank beat Hatton National Bank 3/1; Niluka Karunarathne (Seylan Bank) beat Lakshan (HNB) 21/7, 21/16; Diluka Karunarathne (Seylan Bank) beat Dinuka Karunarathne (HNB) 21/19, 15/21, 21/14; Niluka and Diluka (Seylan Bank) beat Dinuka and Lakshan (HNB) 21/18, 21/18.

Best player - Niluka Karunarathne from Seylan Bank.

Men's B Division - Seylan Bank beat Commercial Bank 3/2.

Best player - Suresh Silva from Seylan Bank.

Men's C Division - Dialog Telecom beat HSBC Bank 3/0.

Best player - Seneka Peiris from Dialog Telecom.

Men's Division - ICM Micro beat Sri Lankan Air Lines 3/1.

Best player - D. Wanikasekera form ICM Micro.

Men's E Division - Ceylinco Group beat Brandix 3/1.

Best player - Hirantha De Silva from Ceylinco Group.

Men's F Division - LOLC beat Colombo Dock Yard 3/1.

Best player - Madush Silva.

Men's F Division - Eskimo Fashion beat DPMC 3/1.

Best player - Indika Fernando from Eskimo Fashion.

Men's veterans - Nations Trust Bank beat Asia Capital 3/1.

Best player - Priyantha Wijesekera from NTB.

Women's A Division - Seylan Bank beat HNB 2/0

Best player - Chandrika De Silva form Seylan Bank.

Women's B Division - Seylan Bank C beat Seylan Bank D 2/0.

Best player - Thilini Gunathilaka from Seylan Bank.

Women's C Division - Dialog Telekom beat DFCC Bank 2/1.

Best player - Shalika Galewela from Dialog Telecom.

Women's D Division - HDPL beat SriLankan Airlines 2/1.

Best player - Nilakshi Gunesekera.
