Karu Jayasuriya resigns
Colombo: Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Karu
Jayasuriya resigned from office yesterday (9).
In
his letter to the President tendering his resignation Minister Karu
Jayasuriya has said , “ we rejoice at the success achieved in
demolishing the power of terrorists in the Mulaitivu and the
Kiliinochchi districts and in liberating the Eastern Province from the
grip of terrorism.
“We provided you with the necessary Parliamentary strength for your
bold initiative to do so without bequeathing the problem to the next
generation. While appreciating your leadership in that effort we also
derived psychological satisfaction by being participants in that
process.”
”For it it’s our duty to preserve democracy for our grandchildren.
For it the existence of both political parties is necessary. Therefore
the UNP should remain a strong party for the future generation. I
believe, I should be a major participant in its preservation.”
He has also told the President that he had decided to accept the
invitation extended to him by the leadership and members of the UNP to
accept the position of the Deputy Leader of the party again.
”I will give my full cooperation in future to eliminate brutal
terrorism,” he had said in concluding his letter.
