Ex-England cricketer charged with drug smuggling
Former England cricketer Chris Lewis has been charged with trying to
smuggle cocaine into Britain.
The 40-year-old former fast bowler was arrested Monday at Gatwick
Airport when nearly 9lb (4kg) worth 200,000 pounds of the drug in a
liquid form was found hidden in fruit tins in his baggage. Lewis, who
played 32 Tests and 53 one-day internationals in the 1990s, had been
flying in from the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. Lewis was due to
appear in court later Tuesday. "This was an excellent detection by UK
Border Agency officers," Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs spokesman Bob
Gaiger said Tuesday." LONDON, AP |
