UNP will suffer unprecedented defeat in up-country

This time the UNP would suffer an unprecedented defeat in the up-country during its over six decade history, the Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake told Daily News on the forthcoming Provincial Council Election.

"Their optimism is only an eternal dream. In the two decade-old history of the Provincial Council, the last four years were the most people-oriented and it will certainly ensure defeat even if the UNP Leader himself would contest."

"Today, the up-country political landscape has completely changed and the Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities are supporting the Government," he said. The Central Provincial Council which was once called a white elephant has now registered progress and won the public accolades. "This time our victory is certain," he concluded.
