Teachers to receive salary hike

colombo: The Education Minister Susil Premajayanth will soon submit a Cabinet Memorandum to rectify the salary anomalies of teachers and school principals.

The Cabinet Memorandum tabled the guidelines of the Salaries and Cadre Commission and the conclusions of the discussion the Minister had with officials of Salaries and Cadre Commission and with the representatives of trade unions of the education sector when drafting the memorandum.

Aiming to overcome financial constraints, 40 per cent of the increase will be paid from the 2009 budget while provisions in. the balance 60 per cent will be paid from the 2010 budget.

The memorandum has followed guidelines given by in the Supreme Court.
