Former Mr. Sri Lanka Somapala wins 80 kg category

Former Mr. Sri Lanka Sisilasiri Somapala emerged champion in the 80 kg category in the 54th National Bodybuilding Championship conducted by Sri Lanka Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation held at Bishop's College Auditorium on Sunday.

About 130 bodybuilders from 26 clubs throughout the country participated in nine weight categories in this championship.

The Semi-finals were conduced at the fort YMCA Hall on Saturday.

The winners and runners-up received gold, silver and bronze medals.

The chief guest at the final and award ceremony was Minister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge.

Secretary to the Ministry of Sports and Public Recreation S. Liyanagama, Director General of Sport B. Dahanayake also graced the occasion.

Jeffrey Schucroft, President of the Bodybuilding Interim Committee said that they had to organise this championship in only 28 days without any sponsors.

Gamini Lokuge Minister of Sports and Public Recreation said that Bodybuilding needed to reach international standard and he would negotiate with several ambassadors to obtain foreign coaches to develop Bodybuilding in Sri Lanka.
