Navin comes into the reckoning
Squash Nationals:
Richard Dwight
The eight-day Sri Lanka Squash Nationals sponsored by Finlays enters
its fourth day at the Gymkhana Club Squash Complex yesterday. In the
preliminaries that began last Saturday, Kasun Abeysekera did well in the
men’s open to get the better of Ashwin Peiris - but progressing into the
first round match Kasun lost to Navin Samarasinghe.
Navin is a reputed top notch ranked player and, with the absence of
defending champion, Saman Tillekeratne, the title may well tilt Navin’s
way. In the Women’s Open, with last year’s champion, Tehani Guruge,
having not entered the fray, the Gangawa’s, Damindi and Nandini along
with Asihi Weerasinghe have impressed in the quarter-finals.
The semi-finals and finals are scheduled for this Friday and
Saturday.
