Govt taking action to bring back Lankans stranded in Bangkok - Deputy FM

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hussein A. Bhaila yesterday told Parliament that Sri Lankan Ambassador in Thailand Prof. J. B. Dissanayake had been instructed to issue passports to Sri Lankans who have been stranded in Bangkok, Thailand to bring them back to the country via Malaysia.

The Deputy Minister further stated if it is necessary the Government will provide visas to them.

“No one is permitted to enter the Airport. Sri Lankan Ambassador in Thailand Prof. Dissanayake had visited each hotel and found details of regarding these people.

The Deputy Minister was replying to a question by UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella.

MP Kiriella was asking the Government, what sort of action it has taken to bring back these Sri Lankans to the country as their bags, documents and passports have been stuck due to the closure of the Airport.”

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the names of Sri Lankans who have been stranded in Thailand should be collected. They are helpless.
