Russian President won’t postpone India trip
RUSSIA: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will not postpone his visit
to India planned for next week despite the deadly attacks in Mumbai, his
spokeswoman said Friday.
“The visit of the president, planned for the beginning of December,
will not be postponed unless the Indian side makes other proposals,”
said spokeswoman Natalia Timakova, quoted by the RIA-Novosti news agency
from Havana.
Medvedev is scheduled to begin his first trip to New Delhi on
December 5. The trip is expected to culminate with the signing of a
bilateral agreement on cooperation in civilian nuclear energy.
Indian officials also plan to sign several military contracts during
the visit. More than two-thirds of India’s weapons come from Russia.
The Mumbai attacks, apparently tailored to gain maximum international
attention, began Wednesday when gunmen attacked targets in India’s
financial hub, including hotels, a hospital and a restaurant popular
with tourists.
