Junior Badminton Nationals from December 5 to 7
Over 2000 shuttlers will take part in the Junior National Badminton
Championships which will be worked off at Royal Sports Complex, SLBA
Stadium, SSC Courts and S. Thomas' Indoor Stadium, Mount Lavinia from
December 5 to 7, 2008.
The events to be worked off are under-11 Boys and Girls Singles,
under-13 Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles, under-15 Boys and Girls
Singles and Doubles, under-17 Boys and Girls Singles and Doubles,
under-19 Boys and Girls Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
For the first time the championship are being conducted on a
provincial level and the number of participants are Central Province
(291), Northern Province (117), North Western Province (200), Southern
Province (171), Western Province (1016), Eastern Province (26), North
Central Province (41), Sabaragamuwa Province (60) and Uva Province (73).
The winners, runners-up, third and fourth placed teams of the events
were selected to take part in the main championship and will be awarded
gold, silver, bronze medals and certificates.
The finals will be worked off on December 7 (Sunday) at Royal College
Sports Complex from 11 a.m. onwards with Minister of Sports and Public
Recreation Gamini Lokuge as the chief guest and the Guest of Honour will
be Mrs. Leisha de Silva Chandrasena, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Telecom and
S.F. Robinson, Chairman and Managing Director SR Sead (Pvt) Limited. |
