The Ministry of Education has organised a National Convention on a
National Policy Framework on General Education aiming to address the
lack of a long term coherent educational policy.
The three day National Convention commenced yesterday at the Sri
Lanka Foundation Institute with the participation of several
intellectuals, educationists and eminent individuals in their respective
fields.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Education Minister Susil
Premajayantha mentioned that the activities of education sector are
mainly done in accordance with Education Ordinance Number 31 of 1939
which is outdated.
"Even though a few acts have been implemented the current core laws
of 1939 cannot address many issues in the education sector.
"Other acts related to general education since independence do not
cover all aspects of education," Minister Premajayantha said. |
