Cowardly acts of terrorism - PM

Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka condeming the terrorist attacks in India, said these attacks on innocent civilians and public properties can only be interpreted as cowardly acts of terrorism.

The Prime Minister condemning the brutal and uncivilised terrorist attacks across the city of Mumbai, India that killed and injured hundreds of innocent civilians, expressed deepest sympathies to the bereaved families and hoped that the injured would make a speedy recovery.

Those vicious attacks on innocent civilians and public properties can only be interpreted as cowardly acts of terrorism.

The menace of terrorism has created great havoc in societies globally, thus requiring it to be addressed urgently and effectively through regional and international co-operation, he said.

The Premier said: "My country, Sri Lanka has been affected severely by such acts of terrorism instigated and manifested by a group of terrorists namely, The LTTE. Our Government is determined to defeat LTTE terrorism and restore normality in the affected areas. We acknowledge with appreciation the firm support and co-operation extended by our friendly nations in this process.

While condemning those uncivilised attacks in Mumbai city of India, I wish to state that we stand firmly with the Government and people of India in their efforts to confront this unexpected situation and eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations."
