Help desk for Lankans in Bangkok
Chaminda Perera
The Sri Lankan mission in Bangkok yesterday opened a Help Desk to
assist the stranded Lankans due to the closure of Suvarnabhumi Airport
and Don Muang domestic air terminal after protesters from the People's
Alliance for Democracy stormed the Airport and disrupted its daily
operations.
A Foreign Ministry official said the mission receives more than 50
telephone calls per day seeking its assistance to ensure safer passage
for them through an alternative Airport. Most of these Lankans are
reportedly facing various difficulties with regard to accommodation. It
is said over 100 Sri Lankans visiting Bangkok for business and others
who are transiting to some other destinations have been affected.
According to Foreign Ministry sources the Thai Tourist Board is
contemplating on how these stranded tourists could be helped.
Tourists stranded in Bangkok specially those who are ill and have
urgent medical appointments will be diverted to other Airports by the
Board soon.
The Lankan mission in Bangkok requests Lankans to call the Embassy
Help Desk on +0066022611935 for assistance or any other information in
this regard. This Desk is open from 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. everyday
including weekends. |
