Petes beat Royal
St. Peter's College edged out Royal College by four wickets in a low
scoring encounter in their inter school under 15 division one tournament
semifinal match worked off at the BRC grounds in Havelock Park
yesterday.
Royal: 79 in 43 overs (M. Abeysekera 37 n.o, J. A. Mackay 3 for 15,
J. de Silva 2 for 24, H. Seneviratne 2 for 11)
St. Peter's: 83 for 6 in 37.5 overs (S. Fernando 24, J. de Silva 16
n.o, L. P. Silva 2 for 18).
Maurice no more
Maurice Gunasekera (71) former cricketer of S. Thomas' College Kotte
passed away after a brief illness at his residence in Kotte yesterday.
Maurice was a prolific opening batsman and represented S. Thomas'
College first eleven team in 1955/56. He took a keen interest as a
cricket writer contributing to some of the leading english newspapers.
He is a former chief building inspector attached to the CGR from 1958
to 1990. His funeral will take place at the General Cemetery Nawala
today at 4.00 p.m.
Sigamoni dies at 82
Former Xaverian soccerite William Sigamoney Pillai passed away on
Saturday after a brief illness at the age of 82. As a schoolboy
soccerite he brought glory to the College and the Nuwara Eliya District
teams in the late 40's and was awarded many a time.
He joined the OBA in 1947 and served the College and the Association
until his last breath. His funeral will take place at the Roman Catholic
cemetery, Nuwara Eliya today after Holy Mass at St. Xavier's Church.
