Schoolboy Fazal top goal getter
Bernard Perera
Mohammed Fazal the schoolboy soccerite from Zahira College Colombo
who also play for the Renown Sports Club from Kotahena is in the front
with six goals under his belt in the Dialog Premier League Soccer
Championship which completed its fifth week.
Fazal who was behind G.P.C. Karunaratne (4 goals) of Negombo Youth SC
came to the front on Sunday at the CR & FC ground entering the field as
substitute for Krishantha Abeysekera for the second session of play.
Krishantha was pulled out by the coach as he was not delivering the
goods for his team in the first half.
No sooner Fazal entered the field he got his colleagues support
specially from the midfielders. Making good use of these Fazal netted in
three goals to take the lead as the top goal scorer after five weeks of
play in the tournament.
Ratnam SC E.B. Channa too has scored four goals playing for Ratnam
SC. Ratnam Sports Club the defending champions who went down to Jupitors
SC last week came up with a better show to win against Police one goal
to nil at CR & FC ground. Last year’s best goal getter Kasun Jayasuriya
and E.B. Channa scored a goal each for Ratnam SC. The solitary goal for
Policemen came through the boot of R.S. Sanjeewa.
New Youngs Sports Club who made their way to the Premier League after
becoming the group leader in Segment B failed to live upto expectations
though playing on their own den at Wennappuwa, lost to Sri Lanka Police
one goal to nil. Asanka de Silva netted in the goal for winners in the
57th minute.
Negombo Youth Sports Club who travelled to Kurunegala to play against
Pelicans Sports had toil hard for over 70 minutes to score their winning
goal.
It was their top goal getter G.P.C. Karunaratne who found the net in
the 71st minute which also kept his side winning streak intact. This
season Negombo Youth SC has got onto a strong position recording good
victories and will be hoping to end up within the top four after the
first round.
The two matches scheduled for the week end between Saunders SC vs
Jupitors SC and Java Lane SC vs Air Force were not played due to bad
ground conditions caused by the heavy rains experienced during the week.
These two matches are to be conducted during the mid week. |
