Godagama to get building material centre soon
The construction on the proposed building materials wholesale centre
at Godagama is to be expedited under the Godagama Town Development
project.
This follows a request made by Provincial and Local Councillors in
the region at a discussion chaired by Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena and
Bandula Gunawardena at the Parliamentary Complex yesterday.
Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Ministry release said
Rs. 250 million has been set apart in the last budget for this wholesale
centre to be set up by the Trade and Consumers Affairs Ministry
according to plans formulated by the UDA.
The proposed centre once completed would distribute building
materials to all parts of the country as it is situated at the entrance
to the Southern Expressway and an important junction of the road network
cris-crossing the country. Areas producing sand, metal, bricks and other
building materials are also situated in close proximity to Godagama.
Provincial Minister Gamini Thilaksiri and Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha
members Sunil Perumbuli, A. C. Kumarasiri, Janaka Weliwatta, Indika
Koralage, S. Hapurachchi and Dickson Gamini and UDA officials attended
yesterday's meeting.
