Wild jumbo captured in Alawwa

Panic driven villagers in Alawwa heaved a sigh of relief when
Wildlife Officers captured a wild jumbo which created havoc in the area.
A herd of three wild elephants arrived from the Nikaweratiya area is
playing havoc in Alawwa.
These three elephants have entered the Polkatukanda State forest in
Yattalgoda and the residents of the area lived in great fear.
They had to spend the nights without sleep making fire places in
front of their houses to prevent the elephants from entering the
residential area.
Divisional Secretary of Alawwa Wajira Kamburugamuwa and Alawwa Police
OIC Nimal Bandara informed the Wildlife Department about the situation.
The Wildlife Officers who rushed to the place captured the largest
elephant of the group and tied up it in the jungle.
The Wildlife Officers headed by Deputy Director Edmond Wilson were
combing the Polkatukanda forest in search of the other two elephants.
