Mohammed Naalir
COLOMBO: Referring to yesterday's Daily News report headlined 'Is it
the end of World's End? a spokeswoman for the Environment Ministry said,
development projects were carried out at Horton Plains covering the
World's End area in an environment friendly manner to stop soil erosion
during rainy days.
The spokeswoman said the development plans were carried out on
complaints by foreign and local tourists.
Soil erosion is the main issue Horton Plains faces during rainy days.
Tourists face a lot of problems during rainy days when visiting
certain places at Horton Plains, the spokeswoman said.
Accordingly the 70 metre road has been laid with rock stone and
cement while four small kerbs at places where an immense soil erosion
threat prevails have also been erected.
A small bridge close to the marshy land near Chimminy pool and a 120
feet bridge at Great World's End has also been erected, sources added.
