Residential weekend for student leaders

The Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Educational and
Research is organising a residential weekend for student leaders on
Peace, the Environment and Human Future to be held at the Subodhi
Institute of Integral Education, Piliyandala from November 28 to 30.
Sixty student leaders have been selected for the course from various
Universities across the country. The seminar is titled ‘Training For
Trusteeship’ and will emphasise the duties of trusteeship in regard to
peace, the environment and human future.
Topics to be covered will include philosophical and religious
teachings on these matters and practical steps which can be taken
towards achieving these ends. Participants will be expected to carry to
their fellow students the knowledge and ideas they gather during this
intensive residential weekend. This camp is being held in collaboration
with the Youth Link Movement of Sri Lanka, Justice Weeramantry said.
The Weeramantry International Centre for Peace Education and Research
(WICPER) founded by Judge C. G. Weeramantry, former Vice President of
the International Court of Justice, Emeritus Professor Monash University
and former Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, has centred its work
mainly in the areas of International Law, Peace Education and cross
cultural understanding - these being the ‘three pillars’ of the centre.
The UNESCO Peace Prize and the alternative Nobel Prize (The Right
Livehood Award) were two recent International awards which were
conferred in 2006 and 2007 respectively on Judge Weeramantry in
recognition of the work carried out by the Centre. |
