Pandiveddikulam earth bund captured

KILINOCHCHI: Troops attached to the 58 Division now operating on the
Kilinochchi front further expanded their position within the last two
days with the capture of another vital section of the bunker line
constructed along the Nachchikuda - Akkarayankulam road Pandiveddikulam
in the West of Vannerikuma area, Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya
Nanayakkara said yesterday.
The SLAF MI-24 gunship helicopters gave close air support to the
ground troops as they captured 10 bunkers constructed on the massive
earth bund on Saturday and advanced further northward, military sources
added.
During the confrontations 20 Tiger terrorists were confirmed killed
and 27 injured according to the intercepted LTTE radio transmissions.
The 58 Division now operating in the Kilinochchi district has
captured a four Kilometer stretch of a massive ditch cum earth bund
constructed by the LTTE from Nachchikuda to Akkarayankulam tank area.
Troops have also advanced nearly two kilometres from this earth bund
and in control of the Nachchikuda - Akkarayankulam road depriving the
LTTE of a vital supply route to Nachchikuda.
Four soldiers were killed and six others sustained injuries during
confrontations. |
