Thousands affected by train strike

Train Services had still not returned to normal due to the token strike conducted by two CGR trade unions.

The strike commenced on Saturday by engine drivers and guards saying that the signal light system is faulty. These unions have pointed out that they cannot rely on the signal light system since several defects have been identified.

The train accident at the Ganemulla Railway Station is also a result of the defects of the colour signal light system, union sources said. However, CGR sources said that they could run a few long distance and suburban trains as they utilised the resources well.
