Female clerk credits dead man's pension into hubby's account

A female clerk of the Moneragala Divisional Secretariat has been interdicted for allegedly crediting the pension of a dead pensioner to her husband's bank account.

The interdiction notice was issued by the Moneragala District Secretary. The accountant of the Moneragala Divisional Secretariat complained about this to the Pensions Department while the Director General of Pensions Department informed the Moneragala District Secretary to conduct an inquiry and send him a report. After receiving the report, Pensions Department Director General K. A. Thilakaratne will instruct the District Secretary to lodge a complaint with police.

The suspect is alleged to have illegally obtained nearly Rs. 100,000 for nine months by affixing her husband's photo on the ID of the dead pensioner H.S. Susiripala of Moneragala.

The Director General of the Pensions Department said the suspect has paid back the money.
