Lanka, India ink deal on scientific cooperation
India and Sri Lanka have signed an agreement to hold workshops and
seminars as well as exchange visits by scientists and research workers.
Under the agreement, signed early this week in New Delhi, the two
countries, in accordance with national laws and regulations, would
exchange scientists, research workers, technologists, specialists,
scholars, scientific and technical information and documentation,
officials said.
The agreement would facilitate fellowships for the training of young
researchers on exchange basis and will also facilitate joint
identification of the potential for research cooperation stemming from
scientific and technical challenges in trade and industry, including
joint research projects, exchange of experience and know-how and
organisation of exhibitionsMinisters of SAARC countries met for the
first time in New Delhi last month to strengthen regional cooperation in
the field of science and technology for 2008-2013 through establishment
of a virtual SAARC technology information web portal and focused
collaboration in prioritised sectors.
Following the agreement made under the Colombo Declaration during the
10th SAARC Summit in 1998, it was decided to enhance the quality of life
in the region through strengthened regional cooperation in the area of
science and technology.
