Moratuwa to be named Sahajeewana Nagara

COLOMBO: Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister
Dinesh Gunawardane said Moratuwa city will be named Sahajeewana Nagara
to mark World Habitat Day which falls today while declaring this week as
World habitat Week.
He said parallel to World Habitat Day celebrations, the Ministry has
organised a large number of social service programmes. Accordingly, 107
permanent housing units will be constructed
for slum dwellers in Dhandeniyawatta, Samarakoonwatta, Ivanwatta and
Pittaniyawatta. Meanwhile, Minister Gunawardane commissioned the
Seewaliwatta housing scheme while initiating the construction work of
159 permanent housing units for slum dwellers in Hanwella Walawwatta.
The Nagarika Dilindu Arunodhaya project will provide financial,
technical assistance and planning and guidance to the projects. The
project's special feature is to get beneficiary families and local
Government bodies and other community welfare institutions directly
involved in this project. Moratuwa city has been selected to construct
1,000 housing units under the Dilindu Niwasa Arunodhaya programme,
Minister Gunawardane added. |
