SBS destroys LTTE boats

Pooneryn: The elite Special Boat Squadron (SBS) of the Sri Lanka Navy destroyed two LTTE boats and killed eight LTTE cadres in the seas, off the Kalmunai Point, Pooneryn on Monday around 11 p.m., the Navy said yesterday.

The two LTTE boats, which had been launched from the Kalmuani Point Pooneryn were detected by the SBS personnel who were on surveillance patrol. Subsequently, heavy fire power had been directed on the enemy craft which were desperately attempting to flee the impending naval onslaught.

The SBS armed with the Navy's latest innovation, the small fast attack craft, has been able to inflict heavy losses on the enemy using their craft's greater manoeuvrability and speed.

The Navy suffered no casualties and none of the naval craft were damaged in the attack.
