Homeguard seeks your help
K. S. Jayaweera (30) a homeguard and a father of one of Ehetuwagama,
Ambagahawewa, Nochchiyagama is suffering from acute renal failure and
receiving dialysis treatment at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital.
Consultant Nephrologist Dr. D. T. D. J. Abeysekera has recommended a
kidney transplant to save his life.
The surgery is to be done at a Government hospital but he has to find
Rs. 300,000 as cost of medicine and other disposables. Jayaweera says he
is unable to foot this bill due to his family's present financial
plight. He requests philanthropists and the public to assist his cause
by sending whatever financial contributions possible to help expedite
the surgery. All contributions should be remitted to joint account
number 1-026084-1 at the Bank of Ceylon Nochchiyagama branch.
Workshop
A workshop on drama and acting organised by the Creative Crew will be
held from October 1 on Sundays from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. at the
National Scouts Training Centre, Ganemulla Road, Pokuna Handiya,
Ganemulla.
Junior inventor of the year 2008
The final competition to select the most creative and adroit 'Junior
Inventor' of the year 2008 will be held at the Institution of Engineers,
Sri Lanka on October 4. Education Minister Susil Premajayantha will be
the chief guest.
Children's Day celebrations at Dehiwela zoo
The prime objective of the Universal Children's Day programme
organised by the Western Province Probation and Childcare Services
Department is to create public awareness about the plight of destitute,
discarded and abused children and consider them as heirs to privileges
enjoyed by rest of the children in society and provide them with
entertainment and experiences in life said a Department release.
All children attending the ceremony will be provided with a cap and
refreshments. A highlight will be an 'Elephant Dance' performed by the
Zoological Gardens elephant herd to entertain the audience.
The International Elders' Day ceremony to be held at Sahana Udaya
Vivekashramaya, Dehiwela on October 7 will be attended by Ministers,
Parliamentarians, a batch of 1,000 elders' representing Elders' Homes
and rural elders committees of 13 Divisional Secretariat Divisions in
the Colombo district.
Ramazan prayer
Al Haj M.H. Abu Haniffa, trustee of the Nawala Jumma Masjid said
Ramazan festival Prayers will be conducted for women at 8.00 a.m. and
for males at 8.45 a.m. today.
AGM and get-together
The '92 batch AGM and get-together of Trinity College Kandy, will
come alive at Global Towers Hotel, Marine Drive, Colombo 6 on 4th
October, Saturday, from 7.30 p.m. onwards.
Starry Starry Night III
The Colombo branch of the Old Boys' Association of Maris Stella
College, Negombo presents a sing a long evening in aid of development
projects at their alma mater entitled 'Starry Starry Night III' at the
Banquet Hall of the BMICH on Saturday, October 4 from 7 p.m.
Dr. Vijaya Corea will be the master of ceremonies, with the band,

Dharmaloka 70th anniversary
A series of events will be held in the college premises to
commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Dharmaloka College Kelaniya.
An exhibition of paintings "Nethroo" was launched and there will be a
Dharmadeshana on October 1 and offering of 'Dana' will be on October 2.
A journal 'Dharmaloka' will be launched on the same day.
Joint scientific sessions
The Ceylon College of Physicians will have a joint scientific
sessions with the Toxicology Society of Sri Lanka on October 2, 2008, at
Cinnamon Grand Hotel.
Eid-ul-fitr prayer
Sri Lanka Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama' at will celebrate Eid-Ul-Fitr today
and Eid Prayer will start at 9.00 a.m. in Ahmadiyya Mosques.
The Eid-ul-Fitr Sermon delivered by Ahmadiyya Supreme Head Hazrt Miza
Masroor Ahmad from Baithul Futhuh, London, will be telecast live through
MTA (Muslim Television Ahmadiyyaa - Freq. AsiaSat 3s, 100.5 East, 3760
Mgh) on October 2 at 3.30 p.m. Khothba in Urdu will have simultaneous
translations in major languages including English and Arabic.
Function to distribute stipends to undergrads
A function has been organised by the Sri Lanka Islamic Centre,
Maligawatte, Colombo 10 under the auspices of Minister of Parliamentary
Affairs and Chairman of the Centre M. H. Mohamed MP, to distribute
stipends to 42 university undergraduates on October 5 at 11 p.m. at the

Senior Advisor to The President, Basil Rajapaksa, will be the chief
