Quarter finalists found

Sangamittha Balika Vidyalaya, came up with two good wins to qualify for the quarter finals of the all island schools under 17 girls hockey tournament organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Hockey which is now being worked off at Edward Park and Bernard Aluvihare stadium in Matale.

Sangamittha BV stickers first scored a shock 2-1 win over Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala and next beat Ladies College, Colombo 2-0, to enter the quarter finals. As many as four matches ended in draws yesterday keeping the competition wide open.

The results - girls: Vijaya College drew with St. Anthony’s Girls College nil all; Museaus College drew with Christ Church College, Matale nil all; Sangamittha BV Matale beat Janadhipathi Vidyalaya, Nawala 2-1; Pushpadana Girls College beat Janadhipathi Vidyalya Nawala 2-1 Sangamittha BV beat Ladies College 2-0; Girls High School drew with Bishop’s College 0-0; Pushpadana Girls College beat Ladies College 4-1; Vijaya College drew with Yasodara Vidyalaya 0-0.

Quarter Finalists: Seethadevi BV, Girls High School, St. Anthony’s Girls College, Sangamittha BV Matale, Visakha Vidyalaya, Christ Church College, Pushpadana Girls College and Vijaya College.

In the boys section Royal College, Colombo defeated Richmond College, Galle 4-1 to qualify for the quarter finals of the boys under 17 hockey tournament which is now being played at Matale.

The matches will be continued today at 8.30 a.m.

The results of other matches played yesterday were: Nalanda College beat Dharmaraja College 1-0, St. Benedicts College, Kotahena drew with Christ Church College 0-0, St. Thomas College, Matale beat Trinity College 1-0, Joseph Vas College beat St. Benedict’s College 1-0, Ananda College beat Vijaya College 2-0, Kingswood College beat Joseph Vaz College 1-0, Ananda College drew with Sri Sumangala College 0-0, St. Thomas College drew with Richmond College, Galle 2-2, Royal College beat Richmond College 4-1, Vijaya College beat Menikdiwela Central College 5-0.

Quarter-finalists: Royal College, Kingswood College, Ananda College, Dharmaraja College, St. Thomas College, Matale, Christ Church College, Nalanda College and Vijaya College.
