Commander briefed on Army gains
Major General Jagath Jayasooriya, Commander, Security Forces Wanni
and ground Commanders, engaged in Wanni humanitarian operations, to
salvage civilians from the LTTE grip of terrorism, apprised Army
Commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka of the advance and gains the
Army has so far achieved, during a review meeting yesterday morning at
the Security Forces Headquarters Wanni (SFHQ-W).

Lieutenant General Fonseka during the discussion made inquiries into
developments, unfolding in specific Division and Brigade sectors
separately, and received an update from the Commanders while commenting
on related matters of concern to the Army.
Lieutenant General Fonseka, during the discussion further highlighted
the importance of convincing trapped Wanni civilians of the security
guaranteed in cleared areas under the control of the troops and related
resettlement arrangements. He also reminded of the worst consequences
that could be expected from the enemy, as the troops are reaching a
decisive phase of the operations, finally meant to liberate Mullaittivu
and Kilinochchi from LTTE clutches.
Major General Jagath Jayasooriya after receiving the Commander and
his senior officers flown from the Army Headquarters presented a full
account of the security developments to the Army chief at the
commencement of the meeting.
