SWRD's death anniversary
The 49th death anniversary of SWRD Bandaranaike will be held on
September 26 at the Horagolla Samadiya.
Traffic on the Colombo-Kandy Road will be diverted through
alternative roads between 7.00 am - 10.00 am on the day as follows.
All Colombo-bound vehicles will be diverted through Pasyala,
Attanagalla, Urapola, Kirindiwela, Dikkanda, Yakkala-junction. Kandy
bound vehicles will be diverted through Kalagedihena, Dadagamuwa,
Veyangoda and Nittambuwa and all Veyangoda bound vehicle from Kandy will
be diverted through Pasyala junction, Mirigama, Mallhewa and Veyangoda.
International Deaf Day -job Fair
The Mohan Lal Grero Foundation and the School of the Deaf, Sri Lanka
will organise a job fair for those affected with speech and hearing
impairment to mark International Day of the Deaf which falls on
September 28.
The job fair will be held from 8.00 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. at the School
for the Deaf, Ratmalana.
All deaf job seekers can attend this job fair. This job fair will be
free to all seeking jobs as well as for firms willing to offer jobs.

Centenary celebrations
The Past Pupils of Presbyterian National Girls' School, Dehiwela have
organised a thanksgiving Service at the Christian Reformed Church,
Station Road, Dehiwela at 9 am on October 4 to celebrate its centenary.
This will be followed by lunch.
Teachers on the school staff at the time of the Golden Jubilee will
be feted while D. Gunawardena who retires after seven years as Principal
will be given a farewell.
Dinner dance
The 18th Thurstanite annual dinner dance organised by the Thurstan
Old Boys Union will be held on September 27 at the Waters Edge ballroom
from 9.00 p.m.
Entertainment will be provided by Misty and Heat. Tickets will be
available at the Thurstan pool office or venue.
Art contest, exhibition
The National Children's Art Competition and Exhibition organised by
the Sri Lanka YMCA to mark International Children's Day will be held on
October 1, at the Lionel Wendt Gallery. The Award Ceremony will commence
at 4.30 pm.
Get together
The annual get together of Old Boys Association of the Kelaniya Sri
Darmaloka Central College will be held on September 28 at the Marawila
Sanmali Beach Hotel. Participants are requested to come to the college
hall before 6.30 a.m.
Worship Musical
The worship Musical, "One Lord, One Faith" will be presented by the
Choir of St. Francis of Assisi, Mount Lavinia on September 27 at 6.00
p.m. at the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, 80, Hotel Road, Mount
Lavinia.
Prize day
The annual prize giving of Maradana Sri Sangarajaha Maha Vidyalaya
will be held on September 30 at 9.00 a.m. at Maradana Elphinstone
Theatre.
Teacher training workshop
A three-day teacher training workshop will be held at President
College. Kataragama from September 28 to 30.
The event has been organised under the patronage of the Tharunyata
Hetak Organisation and Rural Education Development Academy.
Ministers Chamal Rajapaksa and Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Tharunyata
Hetak Organisation President Namal Rajapaksa and Kataragama Maha
Devalaya Basnayake Nilame, Sashendra Rajapaksa will participate as
special guests.
Kuchipudi lecture, demonstration
Renowned Kuchipudi exponent from India Deepika Reddy along with her
troupe will present a lecture-cum-demonstration on Kuchipudi on October
7 at the Indian Cultural Centre, 133, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 4.
Deepika Reddy is acclaimed as a fine exponent of Kuchipudi style of
dance from the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. She was groomed by Guru
Padmabhushan Dr. Vempati Chinna Satyam and has secured a niche for
herself in the world of performing arts.
AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Chartered Institute of Logistics
and Transport of Sri Lanka (CILT) will be held at 9.30 a.m. on September
27 at the Savsiripaya auditorium, Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo 7.
The annual general meeting will be followed by CILT annual sessions
2008/2009 at 10.30 a.m. at the same venue. The theme of the annual
sessions 'Energy Conservation and Sustainability in the Transport and
Logistics Sector' will have speakers - Prof. Saman Bandara (past
Chairman of CILT), Professor in Civil Engineering, Department of Civil
Engineering, University of Moratuwa, P. P. Wijesekera, Additional
General Manager (Tech.) Sri Lanka Railways and Dr. Thusitha Sugathapala,
Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of
Moratuwa.
Exhibition
An exhibition entitled 'Her footsteps, from then to now' highlighting
the milestones of the history of the women's movement in Sri Lanka and
contributions by women's organisations towards its development, will be
showcased by the Women and Media Collective, in an exhibition on
September 27 and 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sudarshi Hall, Colombo.
Saranga Naven Awith
The comedy Saranga Naven Awith by dramatist Rodney Warnakula will be
staged at John de Silva Memorial Theatre, Colombo 7, on September 28 at
3.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. in aid of the Combined Welfare Association of
the offices of the Chief Government Whip and Leader of the House of
Parliament.
Urban Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will be present at the
6.30 p.m. show.
Annual sessions
The technical sessions and the annual general meeting of the
Institute of Biology will be held on September 26 at 9.00 a.m. at the
auditorium of the Sri Lanka Association for the Advancement of Science,
Colombo 7.
The theme this year focuses on Grassroot Innovations and Traditional
Knowledge for National Development. The technical sessions which will
follow the annual general meeting will foster dissemination of research
findings of the biologists.
Handicraft sale
The Lanka Mahila Samiti handicraft sale will be held on September 30
from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their new headquarters, 391, Thimbirigasyaya
Road, Colombo 5.
There will be handicrafts, linen, readymade garments, sarees, batiks,
beeralu lace, kaftans, homemade goodies - chutneys, pickles, short eats
and cakes on sale.
Blood donation
The Horana SLFP Central Organisation will conduct a blood donation
campaign for the sixth consecutive year to mark the 26th Bandaranaike
commemoration day, on the initiative of Prime Minister, Ratnasiri
Wickramanayake.
Ahimi Deneth
Ahimi Deneth sponsored by Industrial Finance Limited and a music
talent show performed by the blind community will be held on September
26 at 3.00 p.m. at the Colombo Public Library auditorium. The show is
organised by the Blind Musical Symphony.Many blind personalities will
perform at the show backed by a band of blind musicians.
National Transport policy draft
Transport Minister, Dullas Alahapperuam said the National Transport
Policy draft is available for public comments. Free copies are available
at the Transport Ministry and institutions under it.
Annual sale and Good News fair
The Ceylon Bible Society annual sale and Good News fair will be held
on September 27 from 9.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m. at the Christian Reformed
Church, Galle Road, Wellawatte.
Idul-Fitr prayers
Idul-Fitr festival prayers organised by Suddooqul Birr Foundation
will be held on Idul-Fitr day at 6.45 a.m. at Stanley Jansz Park, Alwis
Place junction (adjoining Bishop's College), Colombo 3.
