GSP+ issue a weapon to destabilise Govt. - Weerawansa
Shirley WIJESINGHE
The European Union (EU) is trying their last trump card to deny the
GSP + to Sri Lanka with the intention of destabilising the Government
specially on the verge of a military victory by the troops, said
National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader Wimal Weerawansa.
Their main objective is to appoint a Government favourable of them
and stop the military operations, Weerawansa added.
Weerawansa appealed to the EU not to take GSP+ issue as a political
weapon.
Speaking at the media conference organised to explain the NFF's views
about the current situation of the GSP issue, NFF leader Weerawansa
said, Government should not bow down to the condition of the EU to
intervene in the so-called human rights violations in our country,
Weerawansa stressed. The most of our exports will not depend on the EU
member countries. Our exports are specially apparel items being exported
directly to the USA. Similarly the Government must find out marketing
avenues for our exports.
Weerawansa appealed to all patriotic elements including stakeholders
of the export industry to organise protest campaigns against the
decision related to the GSP+ issue.
The NFF will organise protest campaigns too against the such possible
decisions of the EU at the opposite of their Colombo office shortly, he
said.
