National council to improve revenue collection

A National Council will be set up to recommend ways to improve the revenue collection in local bodies.The Council will oversee amendments to the current Revenue Collection Laws for local authorities ,to suit the modern age and ensure a more efficient revenue collection system.

According to Local Government and Provincial Council Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon the relevant agreement had already been signed and work on the draft law for setting up such a Council has already been completed.

Until such time the law is passed a provisional Council will be set up to recommend amendments to improve revenue collection in local bodies with the coming into being of the National Council the present National Committee set up to suggest reforms for the local bodies would cease to exist.
